Supreme Court Orders NEET-UG Results to be Published by July 20 Noon

The Supreme Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to release the results of the 2024 NEET-UG exam by noon on July 20. This order comes amidst concerns over the exam's integrity, affecting over 23 lakh candidates who appeared for the test.

In Short:

- Supreme Court mandates NEET-UG results by July 20 noon

- Results to be published without revealing candidates' identities

- Over 23 lakh students took the exam on May 5, 2024

- Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to update seat details on its portal from July 20

Supreme Court's Directive:

On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to release the results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 by noon on July 20. Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud, leading the bench, emphasized that the results must be published without revealing the identities of the candidates.

Concerns Over Exam Integrity:

The bench, also comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, acknowledged that the sanctity of the NEET-UG exam was compromised. However, they stated that canceling the exam entirely would be an extreme measure, considering it impacts the lives of over 23 lakh students. They stressed that such a decision would be a last resort.

Exam Statistics:

The NEET-UG exam, held on May 5, 2024, saw participation from more than 23.33 lakh students across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 international cities. In their affidavits, the Centre and the NTA argued against scrapping the exam, citing the lack of evidence for a large-scale breach of confidentiality and the negative impact on honest candidates.

MCC's Notice:

Meanwhile, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a notice to medical colleges, urging them to enter their seat details on the official MCC portal. Participating institutions can start submitting seat information from July 20, in preparation for the UG counseling process for 2024.
