The Ministry of Home Affairs has established a committee to investigate the tragic deaths of three students in a flooded basement at a renowned civil services coaching centre in Delhi. This committee will examine the causes, assign responsibility, propose safety measures, and recommend policy changes, with a report expected in 30 days.

The committee includes the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Principal Secretary (Home) of the Delhi government, the Special CP of Delhi Police, and a Fire Advisor. A Joint Secretary from the home ministry will serve as the Convener.

The deceased students, Shreya Yadav (25) from Ghaziabad, Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, and Nevin Delvin (24) from Ernakulam, were trapped in the flooded basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar.

The Delhi Police have arrested the coaching centre's owner and coordinator, charging them with culpable homicide. Investigations revealed that the basement, meant for parking and storage, was improperly used as a library without necessary drainage and safety measures, contributing to the fatal incident.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan labeled the deaths as a result of negligence, emphasizing the need for accountability to prevent future occurrences.
