- Factory worker lost part of his finger during ice cream production.

The mystery of the finger found in an ice cream cone in Mumbai has been solved. DNA tests have confirmed that the finger belongs to Omkar Pote, an employee of an ice cream factory in Indapur, Pune.

The incident came to light when Dr. Brendan Ferrao, a resident of Malad, Mumbai, discovered a piece of a finger in a butterscotch ice cream cone he ordered through an online app. Shocked by the discovery, Dr. Ferrao contacted the authorities.

"Forensic tests confirmed that the DNA from the fingertip matched that of Omkar Pote," a police official said. "Pote lost part of his middle finger while filling ice cream at the factory. Unfortunately, it ended up in the product shipped to Mumbai."

The incident occurred on June 12, 2024, when Dr. Ferrao ordered three ice cream cones from the Yummo brand. "As I got to the middle of the ice cream, I felt something hard," Dr. Ferrao recalled. "At first, I thought it was a large nut, but then I saw a nail."

Following the discovery, a case was filed against Yummo Ice Cream Company, and the sample was sent for forensic investigation. The findings have led to an investigation into the factory's safety and hygiene practices.
