The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of two suspects involved in the murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab.
Harjit Singh, also known as Laddi, from Garpadhana village in Punjab’s Nawanshahr, and Kulbeer Singh, also known as Sidhu, from Yamuna Nagar in Haryana, are wanted in connection with the crime. The NIA has urged anyone with information about these individuals to come forward, assuring that the identities of informants will remain confidential.
Vikas Prabhakar was shot dead on April 13, 2024, at his confectionery shop near the Rupnagar railway station in Nangal town. Two unidentified men on motorcycles entered the shop, opened fire, and fled the scene. The incident sparked a significant investigation.
On April 16, the Rupnagar Police, in collaboration with the state special operating cell (SSOC) in Mohali, arrested two operatives linked to the murder. The Punjab police, in a social media announcement, stated that they had solved the case within three days, capturing the two suspects and seizing weapons, including 32 bore pistols, live cartridges, and the scooter used in the crime.
Initial investigations revealed that the murder was part of a terror module funded by handlers based in Portugal and other locations. The police continue to probe the extent of this network and its international connections.
