In a significant disciplinary action, the Uttar Pradesh Police has demoted Deputy Superintendent Kripa Shankar Kanaujia to the rank of constable. This decision comes three years after he was discovered in a compromising situation with a female constable at a hotel.

Kripa Shankar Kanaujia, who was serving as the Circle Officer (CO) Bighapur in Unnao, has now been transferred to the 26th Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion in Gorakhpur. The incident that led to his demotion began in July 2021 when Kanaujia went missing after taking leave for supposed family reasons.

Instead of heading home, Kanaujia checked into a hotel in Kanpur with a female constable. He turned off both his personal and official mobile phones, which raised suspicions. His wife, worried about his sudden disappearance, reached out to the SP Unnao for help.

The situation intensified when a surveillance team discovered that Kanaujia’s phone signal had gone dead after he arrived at the Kanpur hotel. Acting swiftly, the Unnao Police located the hotel and found Kanaujia with the female constable. CCTV footage confirmed their presence at the hotel, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.

Following the discovery, a detailed report was submitted to the government. After a thorough review, the government recommended that Kanaujia be demoted to the rank of constable. The ADG Administration quickly issued an order to enforce this decision, marking a dramatic fall from grace for the officer once held in high regard.
