Bajaj Auto has introduced the world’s first CNG-powered motorcycle, the Freedom 125, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 1,10,000 (ex-showroom, India). Initially available in Maharashtra and Gujarat, the bike can be booked through Bajaj’s official website or at authorized showrooms.
The Bajaj Freedom 125 is designed with a twin-tank system for both petrol and CNG, providing flexible fuel options for riders. The bike features separate switches for toggling between petrol and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), making it a versatile choice for different riding needs.
The launch event in Pune was marked by the presence of Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, and Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways. Bajaj Auto highlights that the Freedom 125 offers around 50% savings on fuel costs compared to similar petrol-only motorcycles.
In terms of performance, the Freedom 125 is powered by a 4-stroke, air-cooled engine that delivers a maximum power of 9.5 Ps @ 8000 RPM and a torque of 9.7 Nm @ 5000 RPM. The bike can reach top speeds of 90.5 km/h on CNG and 93.4 km/h on petrol. It boasts a range of 200 km on CNG and 130 km on petrol.
The Freedom 125 comes equipped with advanced features such as first-in-class mono-linked type suspensions, an exposed trellis frame, and a quilted seat for enhanced comfort. It also includes a wide handlebar, a 16-inch rear wheel with a 120/70 profile, and an LED headlamp for better visibility.
The bike's fully digital speedometer with Bluetooth connectivity offers modern conveniences, while the PESO-certified CNG cylinder ensures safety and compliance. The Freedom 125 is available in five vibrant colors: Caribbean Blue, Ebony Black, Cyber White, Racing Red, and Pewter Grey.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Limited, emphasized the innovative aspects of the new model: "With the Freedom 125, we address the dual challenges of high fuel costs and the environmental impact of travel through innovative design and technology."
In addition to its CNG capacity of 12.5 L / 2 kg, the bike includes a 2-liter auxiliary petrol tank for added convenience, ensuring riders can travel longer distances with fewer fuel stops.
