In a deeply tragic event in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, a woman named Siriati was killed and consumed by a massive 30-foot python. On July 2, Siriati, who was 30 years old and a mother of five, stepped out of her home in Luwu Regency to buy medicine for her sick child. When she did not return, her family grew worried and began searching for her.
Her husband, Adiansya, made the horrifying discovery of Siriati’s legs protruding from the mouth of the enormous python. The snake had attacked her while she was walking through the forest and had crushed her to death before starting to swallow her whole. Adiansya tried to save her by killing the python, but it was too late.
Village Secretary Iyang recounted that Siriati had left early in the morning to visit her brother and had been missing for several hours before her family started searching for her. The time of death was estimated to be around 7:30 AM local time on July 2.
Walenrang Police Chief, Adjunct Police Commissioner Idul, confirmed that Siriati’s body was found in one piece, although the bones may have been crushed by the python. The body is now at the local funeral home for a religious ceremony.
This incident is the second of its kind in South Sulawesi in less than a month. Earlier in June, a 45-year-old woman was also killed and swallowed by a python. The region is known for its large python species, including the Burmese and reticulated pythons.
