In Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, two separate gunfights led to the deaths of five terrorists and two soldiers on Saturday (6th July 2024).

The first incident took place in Modergam village. Acting on intelligence reports, security forces initiated an operation, which resulted in the death of Lance Naik Pradeep Nain, a para commando. The operation targeted a hideout believed to house two to three terrorists.

Shortly after, a second encounter occurred in Frisal Chinnigam village. Acting on a tip-off about possible Lashkar terrorists, security forces engaged in a gunfight upon arrival, leading to the death of Havaldar Raj Kumar of the 1st Rashtriya Rifles. During this operation, security forces were fired upon by terrorists hiding in a house, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire.

In a related incident last month, security forces engaged in a gunfight with top commanders of The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, in Pulwama district, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
