In a tragic incident that has deeply shocked Kolkata, a 31-year-old doctor was found raped and murdered at a government hospital. The incident, which has raised serious concerns about safety, took a dramatic turn when the victim's family brought alarming details to light in the Calcutta High Court.

The family revealed that the postmortem report had shocking findings: a significant amount of semen was found in the victim's body, pointing to the possibility of gang rape. The autopsy also confirmed that the cause of death was due to strangulation, with numerous injuries indicating a brutal attack. The family's petition stated that their daughter's body showed clear signs of a violent struggle, including trauma to the head, injuries to both ears, and bite marks on her neck.

The doctor’s parents expressed their fears that more than one person was involved in this heinous crime. They criticized the initial investigation, which led to the arrest of only one suspect, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer who frequented the hospital. The family believes that the crime could not have been committed by a single individual and that others involved in the assault and murder are still at large.

Furthermore, the family pointed out that the autopsy appeared to have been conducted hastily, which they suspect was done to protect those responsible for their daughter’s death. They also raised concerns about the safety and accountability measures at the hospital, questioning why no action was taken against the principal and other responsible officials.

In response to these grave concerns, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court did not hold back in criticizing the hospital administration, particularly targeting Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for failing to report the incident to the police. The state government's decision to appoint Dr. Ghosh as principal of another medical college shortly after his resignation from RG Kar also came under scrutiny.

With the CBI now in charge of the investigation, the central agency has wasted no time in taking action. The accused, Sanjoy Roy, has been placed in CBI custody, and the agency has formed specialized teams to handle various aspects of the investigation. This includes revisiting the crime scene, coordinating with Kolkata Police, and ensuring that a thorough and transparent investigation is carried out.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised critical questions about the safety of professionals working in public institutions, as well as the effectiveness of state law enforcement in handling such sensitive and severe crimes.
